Download a FREE science activity. It can be a great way to start your school year! Students love to watch the pepper zip across the water.
Younger students or limited time/supplies? Use this as a teacher demonstration to prompt a conversation about getting along, not gossiping, and being a cohesive class. Older students and access to the simple supplies? You might make it a team activity so students can practice being scientists while working together. In addition to the activity description, I included video you can use to preview or review the activity, a presentation with images of water insects “walking on water” using cohesion, and a web page with more. The materials (pepper, a container of water, dish soap, and a toothpick) make this easy to send home so there’s also a worksheet (in Wordâ„¢) that you can modify for your families. |
